Chad started playing with legendary guitarist Joe Walsh in 1986, working on two albums, Got Any Gum? and Ordinary Average Guy, and multiple US and worldwide tours. Since 1987, Chad has been an important part of Neil Young’s recording and touring band, most recently appearing on Young’s Chrome Dreams II.  Chad's career has seen him in the studio and on stage/TV/touring with major recording artists including Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Boz Scaggs, Brooks and Dunn, Gary Allan, Wynonna, Trisha Yearwood, Miranda Lambert, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Peter Frampton and many,many more. He has also recorded and toured with Mark Knopfler for ten years (1995-2005) and his playing can be heard on the Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris record of duets called All The Roadrunning.
